The very first meeting of the wine bar group, then operating under the name SWAG (Small Winebar Appreciation Group) was at Ezra Pound, a tucked away wine bar in Northbridge. The date for this auspicious occasion was Thursday December10 2009.
With both the end of the year and the end of work approaching, and with that the landslide of “oh so many work dos” and wind up parties to attend, it was difficult to find the time to commit to yet another event. So a big shout out to those members that did make it and who were there for the inaugural meeting. Working with my cider fuzzy memory (and not revealing any secret identities) there was Ultup, Loulou, DJKD, Helen Kitty, Morgandorffer, and myself, arotulon. IMO, because we were there at the start I think we can label ourselves foundation members. If I missed anyone, I am sorry and please let me know via comment below. You too are a foundation member, and my bad.
Perhaps the most amazing thing about Ezra Pound is that the pleasant and relaxed atmosphere made you forget that you had actually done something rather stupid and walked down a dingy dark side alley in Northbridge. Hopefully I will not be tempted to walk down other side alleys in Northbridge because I am sure they don’t all lead to such a wonderful outcome as this.
Looking back I can recall bits and pieces of conversation around the table as we unwound from the working day over drinks and nibbles. There was the upcoming Phoenix concert; how good the cider was; a certain unseen for many years Perth band (I think Big Foot has had more recent sightings than Tokyo Five); how big the cider bottles were; why couldn’t we touch the records?; have you finished your cider yet?; how great was the parking spot that K found?; who wants another cider?
Perhaps if those that were in attendance at this first meeting could leave some comments to help flesh out the scene.

Let’s not forget my epic coca-cola in a jam jar! After all that cider I needed a softie! Also, I was interested to note in the glass bookshelf that no books by Ezra Pound resided. Plenty of Kipling though.
I was there!
whoops. Too much cider playing with my memory. i’ve re-edited history to add you, my fellow foundation member.
I don’t usually venture down those alleys in Northbridge but this was surprisingly pleasant.
Sadly my drink did not come in the promised bag but I enjoyed my cider nonetheless. From memory a good time was had by all esp the person who took a sickie the next day!
