I will start this post off by stating that a friend of a friend of mine knows the people behind the Brown Fox. That said, I am not getting any kickback and I don’t know if my friend told her friend to tell the owners that we even came by.
It was that afore mentioned friend Morgandorffer who informed me of the place. Once I had visited their FaceBook page I was hooked enough to tell the Barchivists.
The Brown Fox is also nearby where we all work, which was a plus but the chosen day Wednesday 27 April, ended up being one of the first rainy days seen here in Perth in quite some time. Sadly this kept many Barchivists from going out to this venue.
In the end it was just HelenKitty and me, which suited me just fine as HelenKitty had just returned to our shores only two days before. She had a lot to tell and how better to tell it than over a glass of wine inside a quiet bar.
When we first walked into the Brown Fox we were both impressed with how big and how lovely it is. The decor is grand and the whole place is spacious. It probably seemed really spacious since the rain was keeping not just Barchivists away but everyone else too.
When you walk up to the bar you can’t miss the wine in the gigantic decanters. These containers are featured prominently in amongst their FaceBook images. HelenKitty and I opted for a glass each but I forget which one we each had. I do remember though that both were organic wines. I am not really enough of a wine connoisseur to say much about the drop I had other than that it was certainly enjoyable to drink.
I also went for some food and apart from the chips I also ordered the olives. Sure, we had given olives a miss at the 399Bar and maybe that could been the start of a year of visiting bars without eating olives but realistically how long was that going to last?
So, seated at the bar, rain easing outside, we chatted and ate and I heard all about Shetland, the place where those ponies hail from, and the Globe theatre and Scotland and everything else, while we tried to get through the olives. This would have to be the biggest serving of olives ever yet encountered in Barchivist history. It shames me to say that we didn’t finish them (and me, I always try to finish the food that is before me) They were good and certainly value for money. I hate how much you pay for a smattering of olives at some venues but here; wow, a generous helping. Maybe too generous.
To sum up, on the evening we went, the atmosphere at The Brown Fox was relaxed. The fittings are fantastic and you certianly feel transported to a place of refined taste. There is a good selection of food and the organic wine is a splendid drop. Let’s see what HelenKitty has to add.
HelenKitty: The olives were tasty, and the organic wine surprisingly nice. The company wasn’t bad either. 🙂
Yes, it was a lovely night. I went back here with one of my friends another night and we played Scrabble. I think we should play board games more!
